What is a Routy link?
Routy links are the tracking links you place on your site to send users to the brands you work with while tracking their full journey. You simply add your existing affiliate link into Routy, and Routy generates a new link for you. Replace your original affiliate link with the Routy link on your site - that’s it.
By using Routy links, your traffic data and affiliate program data are connected in one place, giving you a complete view of the funnel from click to conversion and revenue.
How to add an affiliate link to Routy
Note: Affiliate links added to Routy CANNOT be edited or deleted, only replaced. This is to ensure that if there are any forgotten links Routy will still be able to tell you from where the traffic is coming from.
Click on the Accounts button in the left sidebar menu and select the account for which you want to set up your tracking link. On the account page click Add under the Links section, as shown in the image.
Here you will need to input the following:
- Link Name - The name of the link as it appears on Routy
- Brand - The brand you are promoting on the affiliate URL (if you cannot find the brand, please submit a ticket)
- Affiliate URL - The affiliate URL provided by the brand
- Commission Plan - If the link has a specific deal attached to it, you can set it there
- Link Type - Set the type of link this is. This is simply for analysis and has no operational impact
How to generate a Routy link
Once you’ve added your link you will be taken to the 'Routy Link Generator' (shown in the image below). Please note that Routy links are not saved, only generated. What this means is that you will have one Routy link for every single affiliate link, but can generate multiple Routy links from the same link.
Routy links generally have this structure:
https://affiliates.routy.app/route/123456?affId=12345&ts=5001234
123456 -> Routy link ID
12345 -> Your Routy account ID
5001234 -> Your traffic source ID
If you wish the link to be cloaked or have a 'pretty link structure' you can use Routy's Branded Links.
Advanced Tracking
Routy supports additional parameters that let you add more context to each click and conversion, giving you deeper insights without creating extra trackers. Here are the parameters
Parameter A (pa) and Parameter B (pb) can be used to categorize your traffic in flexible ways, such as:
- Identifying which page sections or CTAs drive conversions.
- Tracking performance by content type (e.g. evergreen, bonus pages).
- Distinguishing traffic from third-party sites without creating separate trackers.
- Running A/B tests.
Routy also supports an External Click ID (cid), which can be used to integrate with email tools or CRMs, or to identify which user or email converted for reporting or rewards.
Add these parameters to your Routy link, place the link on your site, and Routy will take care of the tracking.
Here's an example of a link using the different parameters:
https://affiliates.routy.app/route/123456?affId=12345&ts=5001234&pa=top_list&pb=red&cid=user_1234
Tip: You are free to add as many parameters as you like to your Routy link, however, for these parameters you will need to use the API to access this data
Editing or Replacing an affiliate link
To edit an affiliate link, head to the account page of the link and press the Rdit button or Replace button indicated below.
Editing an affiliate link
This will open a new window where you can edit the
- Friendly Name - Change the name of the link as it appears on Routy
- Status - Change whether the link is active or not
- Link Type - Set the type of link this is. This is simply for analysis and has no operational impact
- Commission Plan - If the link has a specific deal attached to it, you can set it there
- Tracker - This is useful to avoid seeing 'Unknown' traffic sources and helps Routy better organize and map your data
However, you cannot edit the affiliate link or change the assigned brand. To do this, check the section below.
Replacing an affiliate link
Note: It takes 30 minutes for the old affiliate link to refresh and redirect users to the new link
If you need to edit or change an affiliate link being used, simply press the replace button near the link on the account page, as shown below.
When you do this, Routy will copy all the settings of the link to create a new one.
Edit the link, and anything else that has changed. Remember, if you do not need to change the affiliate link, you can simply edit the current link as shown in the section above, instead of replacing it.
Once you press Save, Routy will disable the previous link and create the new one you have added. The affiliate link will not need to be changed, as Routy will send users to the new link.
