This guide explains how to set up postback tracking so Routy can receive conversion data from your affiliate programs.
What is Postback Tracking?
Postback tracking (server-to-server tracking) allows affiliate programs to send conversion events directly to Routy.
When a user clicks a Routy link, a unique click ID is added to the affiliate link. If the user later completes an action such as a signup or deposit, the affiliate program sends a postback to Routy containing that click ID. Routy then matches the conversion with the original click.
Why Use Postback Tracking?
Postback tracking allows you to:
Receive conversion data in real time
Track conversions at the click level
Maintain a reliable log of events
Key Terms
Affiliate Link
The link a user clicks before landing on the brand website.
Click Parameter
The variable used by the affiliate program to track clicks (e.g. afp, payload, c).
Postback URL
The URL generated by Routy that the affiliate program calls when a conversion occurs.
Setting Up Postback Tracking
Setting up postbacks requires three steps.
1. Generate a Postback URL in Routy
a. Go to Affiliate Programs > Accounts
b. Select the account
c. Click Postback
d. Select the conversion event (e.g. Signup or FTD)
Routy will generate a postback URL that you can provide to the affiliate program.
Note: You can also generate a generic postback through the side menu. This should only be used by users with strong experience with postbacks.
2. Add the Postback to the Affiliate Program
a. Add the generated postback URL to the affiliate platform or share it with your account manager.
b. Most programs require one postback per event (for example: one signup postbacks and one FTD postback).
Note: Each platform may use a different variable format for the click ID (e.g.: %click_id%, ${click_id} etc.). Your affiliate program can confirm the correct format.
3. Test the Integration
To test the setup:
a. Generate a Routy tracking link
b. Generate a test link
c. Confirm that the correct parameter is passing and share the generated test link with your account manager
You can verify if the postback was received under:
Reports → Logs → Postbacks
Viewing Postback Data
Once postbacks are received, conversion data will appear in Routy reports and dashboards.
Events may take up to one hour to appear in reports but can be viewed immediately in the Postback Logs (Events > Postbacks).
Troubleshooting
Program not available in Routy
Contact the Routy team to request the integration.
Error generating a postback link
This usually means the program’s click parameter is not configured. Confirm that the program can support postbacks, and add it in the account’s Tracking Parameters.
Postbacks not appearing
Check that:
the correct click parameter is passed in the affiliate link (Follow Step 3 listed above to generate a test link)
the postback URL was added correctly to the affiliate program
the click ID variable is being replaced correctly (Check with the account manager that your postback follows the correct format)
If the issue persists, contact the Routy support team.
